Team Building & Outdoor Activities

Activities at your Site

Outdoor Elements can come to your site to deliver outdoor activities

At your site we can offer:

Problem Solving
Survival Skills / Bushcraft: Shelter Building and Fire Lighting

The day can be presented to meet your objectives and budget.  Here are some ideas, but we are flexible so please don’t hesitate to contact us to discuss further.

We can provide up to 2 qualified instructors with the archery equipment for the day (we have 2 mobile ranges).  We can be at the school at a time to suit you.  Each archery range would require an area measuring 10 metres by 10 metres.  We have a safety net and the area would be taped off. The ranges would NOT be next to each other.  We would need to look at what area you have available, noting archery can be done in sports halls as well as outside.

Have a go archery (lots of participants)

We would need to introduce participants to the equipment and give some basic coaching to help them hit the target. I suggest it usually takes about six arrows to practice and pick up the very basic skill. So we could allow each person to shoot 9 arrows and take the three best arrows as their score. This will usually take about 10 minutes and 1 instructor can work with up to 6 people shooting at three targets. So in 1 hour, 1 instructor could get through 36 participants. This would literally just allow people to have a go but this way we can get through a lot of people in a day. 36 people per hour; so in 4 hours up to 144 people could have a go.

“Staff all reported positive feedback.  Everyone delighted it has been such a success.  All children enjoyed and achieved!”  Eccleston St. Mary’s Primary School

Longer archery sessions

For a better overall experience we would suggest the day is organised into sessions with a group attending each session. 1 hour sessions will allow the group to learn some basic technique and to really start hitting the target. We would also play some fun archery based games to enhance the experience and have a mini competition to present Archery as the sport that it is. Alternatively, we can build in references to the curriculum.  We are happy to work with 12 participants on the range with 1 instructor at any one time.  4 times 1 hour sessions with 12 participants would mean 48 people get to take part through the day.

“The children absolutely loved it.  It was a fantastic experience that the children will remember.”  Wesham CE Primary School

We have problem solving resources that can be used indoors and outdoors.  Working in small teams (up to 10) there are a range of physical and cognitive tasks to explore team dynamics and the process of plan-do-review.  This session can also be presented as a fun competition between teams.

Each problem solving task lasts between 10-20 minutes and we can select the tasks according to time available and objectives of the session.

A minimum of 1 instructor can run the session (s) and have either support from teaching staff (keeping the cost down) or extra Outdoor Elements instructors.

A session would be a minimum of 40 minutes up to 90 minutes.

“I imagine we will repeat the event again in the future. It was well worth it!  The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience.”  Crowcroft Park Primary School

Sessions may include, shelter building using natural or man made materials, fire lighting and the triangle of combustion, sources of food and water and their importance for our survival or natural art. Learning can be related to our modern lives compared to people elsewhere in the world living more of a survival existence or to enhance an appreciation, understanding and connection to the natural world and what it provides for us.

This would be an instructor led session, with one instructor working with up to 10 participants per session.  A session would be a minimum of 40 minutes up to 90 minutes.

“The instructors were brilliant.  The children all thoroughly enjoyed it and learnt a lot about team work.”  Kirkham Grammar School
